This UNESCO World Heritage site is home to nearly half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas, offering visitors a rare chance to observe these gentle giants in their natural habitat
Your adventure begins early in the morning with a briefing from experienced park rangers. You’ll then hike through dense rainforest, guided by trackers who locate gorilla families. The trek can take anywhere from 1 to 6 hours depending on the gorillas’ location, but the reward is worth every step — spending a magical hour just a few meters away from a gorilla family.
To trek gorillas in Uganda, you need a permit issued by the Uganda Wildlife Authority.
- Permit cost: around $700 USD per person
- It’s highly recommended to book in advance, especially during peak seasons
Gorilla trekking is available year-round, but the best time is during the dry seasons:
- June to September
- December to February
Unlike other destinations, Bwindi Impenetrable Forest offers a more intimate and less crowded trekking experience. The park’s rich biodiversity also includes hundreds of bird species, butterflies, and unique plant life, making it a paradise for nature lovers.
